Principal Instructor

Sarah Dunn

Sarah has always had a love of human movement. Through her theatre training at University, she found a strong connection with the Feldenkrais Method which deepened her love of human movement. Her appreciation of the mindful and artistic use of the body developed as she worked as a performer in Australia and the United Kingdom. She also studied the Alexander Technique, which helped her practise and performance as a professional musician.

Sarah became dedicated to the practice of Iyengar Yoga, and over the years a more scientific interest in the body emerged. This led her to study anatomy and physiology. Sarah began studying the Pilates Method and found that it was the only method that taught her about her core muscles, improved her posture, and cured her lower back pain. The profound effects of this led her to study Pilates teacher training and she became certified as a Pilates instructor from the University of Technology Sydney in 2003. From 2004 Sarah worked at Pilates Focus, a physiotherapy, Pilates, and exercise rehabilitation studio in Sutherland. Over 6 years there, her body of knowledge grew as she taught personalised studio Pilates, mat classes, Swiss ball classes, small apparatus classes, rehabilitation and pre and post-natal programs.

Since 2007 Sarah has been an instructor at Leeon Studio Pilates, one of the longest established and most respected Pilates studios in Sydney. A large array of clients come to the studio, from young performers and talented sportsmen and women, to those wanting general conditioning; others needing rehabilitation from injury or operation, to pre and post-natal women, and active seniors.

Between studio work Sarah taught corporate mat classes for Pilates at Work and Fit Too Travel. She was also the Pilates teacher at Concord Yoga Studio and Sydney Pregnancy Centre.

During Covid, Sarah completed certification in Infection Control.

In 2023 Sarah committed to further study to become and Allied Health Assistant in Physiotherapy.

2024 will see her take further her studies to become qualified in Fitness for the Older Adult.

To fill her own cup, Sarah enjoys yoga classes, women’s self-defence based on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, BodyMinded workshops, precious time with friends, bushwalks, and hanging out with her family and pets Maxie, Puss, Felix, Scruffy, Lilly and Buddy the Acrobat.

Sarah is currently researching healthy brain ageing, and ways of slowing the onset of age-related conditions such as dementia. She loves to share this evidence-based knowledge with her loyal clients.

2025 Sarah will study a course on Traumatic Brain Injury through the University of Tasmania.

Blue Mountains Pilates brings together all of Sarah’s unique experiences and offers a boutique fitness experience to the local residents and visitors to the Blue Mountains.
